Thornton Hall Hotel
Thornton Hall Hotel and spa is a four star hotel based on the Wirral. The luxury hotel is multipurpose; the hotel offers state of the art conference facilities and event management, such as weddings, along with a spa, gym and two restaurants all available to hotel residents and guests.
Thornton Hall Hotel has a very good website and on first viewing it looks very professional and classy. The home page contains a brief description of the hotel and what it offers; along the top are the different categories available – hotel, spa, conference, events and weddings, which if clicked on take you to a different part of the site for your intention. Down the left hand site of the home page are useful links such as ‘Contact Us’, ‘News and Events’ etc. Under these links is an enquiry form which is useful for any enquiries or information that cannot be found on the site. And finally there is a link to ‘Check Availability’ which can be used to make a quick booking online. The site also now includes an online shop for spa and beauty products.
From its appearance and what that the site offers, it seems to be aimed towards the middle class and above who are reasonably well off. Intended users will also be Business people due to the conference facilities offered.
- The biggest strength of the hotels site is the layout. The five tabs along the top when hovered above bring down a drop list with sub-categories to make navigation a lot easier and quicker. By clicking directly on the tab itself takes the user to the specific page, where the sub-categories are also shown in a box format, for example on the conference page.
- Another strength of the site is the simple but the efficient ‘Enquiry Form’ which can be found on the left hand side of the homepage. All that is needed to do is add a name, e-mail address and the enquiry, add the security check and click submit – it’s as easy as that.
- Joining the mailing list to receive news and offers is just as simple, by clicking on ‘Join our mailing list’ on the homepage take you to a page where similarly add some details and submit to join. Finally I liked the design of the site, with the blue border and with a Christmas theme to it; the site looks professional and appealing to the intended users.
- Finally I attempted to use the ‘Check Availability’ link to book a hotel room online and found that unless you’ve booked online before you have to register your personal details. I see this as a disadvantage as it takes longer, and isn’t ideal especially if it is a one off stay. Registering gives you a username and password which is then used to book. However the online booking system/checking availability is simple and easy to use once registered.
